Many of us can be more selfish than we choose to believe. Either recently or sometime in the past, we
may have made decisions that we didn't take the time to properly weigh out. In the moment, the only thing that mattered was what we wanted. We don't always take the time to think about what will happen as a result of our actions. Remember Achan in the old testament book of Joshua. When Israel was going to overtake Jericho, he had seen a beautiful robe from Babylon, 200 silver coins, and a bar of gold. He saw it, liked it and decided he would take it. We know that he knew it wasn't the right thing to do by the lengths he went to in order to cover up what he did. He buried them under the ground beneath his tent. How many times have we done things that we knew were deceitful and tried to hide it? We can hide things from people but God sees everything. In one instant, Achan allowed his greed to lead him to do the unthinkable. He disobeyed explicit instructions from the Lord. Do you think that he would have followed through with his actions if he had stopped to think it through? As a result of his disobedience, he became a hindrance to his entire family. That's right. The choices he made that day cost his life and the lives of his family. Just as it was then, so it is now. From this day forward, let's make a determination to consider the costs and consequences of our actions.
